Patient Escorted by Police After Ambulance Delays on Isle of Wight

Emergency Airlift Delayed by Waiting Helicopter Landing Pad

A seriously ill man in his 60s was rushed to Sea Close in Newport, Isle of Wight, under police escort this afternoon. The patient was transferred by ambulance because the helicopter landing pad was occupied by the Thames Valley air ambulance at St Mary’s Hospital.

Blue Light Escort Sparks Crowd Curiosity

Officers from the Island Response and Patrol team provided a blue light police escort to the Isle of Wight ambulance, which was carrying the patient and two nurses. The convoy travelled from St Mary’s to Sea Close, drawing a crowd as the Hampshire and Isle of Wight ambulance landed on the grass near the council offices.

Helicopter Transfer to Southampton General

Once at Sea Close, the man was swiftly loaded onto a helicopter and flown to Southampton General Hospital for urgent care.
