Firefighters battled a fierce blaze at an end-of-terrace house on Roe Way, Wallington, yesterday afternoon. Around 60 firefighters and eight fire engines scrambled to the scene after the alarm was raised at 3:49pm.
Roof Destroyed in Three-Storey Inferno
The London Fire Brigade revealed that part of the three-storey house’s roof was gutted by the fire. In a heartwarming rescue, a cat named Tiger was saved by crews and brought to safety. One of the Brigade’s towering 32-metre ladders was deployed as firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the flames.
Traffic Chaos as Fire Rages
Station Commander Ian Simpson, who attended the scene, warned: “Traffic in the surrounding area was severely impacted. Motorists were advised to avoid the area.” The Brigade’s 999 Control officers fielded 15 calls reporting the fire. Crews from Wallington, Croydon, Purley, Sutton, and Norbury joined forces to tackle the blaze. The fire was finally under control by 7:36pm.
