A 42-year-old man has been locked up for running two brothels in Birmingham, following a crackdown by West Midlands Police.

Dongping Xiao Sentenced to One Year

Dongping Xiao appeared before Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday, 15 April, where he was sentenced to one year behind bars. He was convicted of two counts of keeping a brothel. Police first encountered Xiao in September last year at a property in Edgbaston. Despite his denial of involvement in sex work, officers found two women and evidence pointing to illicit activity.

Second Raid Uncovers More Evidence

In February, officers from the Birmingham Serious Organised Crime and Exploitation (SOCEX) team found Xiao again at another property on Bradford Street. More women and items linked to sex work were discovered. Xiao acted as a “minder,” controlling and facilitating the sex work at both premises.

Police Praise Investigation and Appeal for Public Help

PC Porter from SOCEX said: “The fact that Xiao has been sent to prison shows our commitment to protecting vulnerable people and tackling exploitation. “Hours of evidence building and analysis of phones went into this investigation, proving his involvement in sexually exploiting women. “This sends a clear message that such illegal activities won’t be tolerated. We remain committed to protecting vulnerable people and bringing offenders to justice.”

West Midlands Police urges anyone worried about this type of crime or vulnerable individuals to contact 101 or use live chat on their website.
