11-Year-Old Girl Bags Record-Breaking MBE for Charity
At just 11 years old, Carmela Chillery-Watson has smashed records by becoming one of the youngest ever to snag an MBE, announced in the King’s Birthday Honours. Her cause? Raising thousands for muscular dystrophy charities despite her own rare, muscle-wasting condition.
Fighting a One-in-a-Million Condition
Diagnosed at age three, Carmela lives with a muscle-wasting disease that affects only one in a million children worldwide. But instead of sitting back, she’s led roughly 25 fundraising and awareness campaigns for Muscular Dystrophy UK, raking in over £400,000.
“Speechless” at Windsor Castle Ceremony
When Carmela got the official letter, she said she was completely “speechless.” After collecting her MBE at Windsor Castle, she told reporters: “I never would have thought that I would have got an MBE. I just wanted to do what I did to change communities. But this is absolutely incredible. I just never would have thought this would have happened in a million years.”
Youngest MBE Ever? Possibly!
The Government claims Carmela might be the youngest MBE recipient ever, though admit historical records are patchy. Either way, her achievement is nothing short of extraordinary.
