Teen Arrested After Fire Tears Through Prestigious West London School
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a huge blaze at the London Oratory School in Fulham, police revealed on Wednesday.
Massive Fire Response at London Oratory School
At 10am, ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters rushed to tackle the fire at the four-storey Catholic school on Seagrave Road. Part of the building’s atrium was damaged.
Thankfully, the London Fire Brigade confirmed the fire is now under control and no one has been injured. The London Ambulance Service said it did not treat any patients at the scene.
Evacuations and Roadblocks As Flames Rage
- Nearby shopping centre and several homes were evacuated as a precaution.
- Residents were advised to keep windows closed.
- Road closures remain in effect; police urge people to avoid the area.
- A 16-year-old suspect was arrested at around 11:15am and remains in custody.
School With Famous Alumni Under Investigation
The London Oratory School, close to Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium, accepts boys aged 7-18 and girls aged 16-18. Notable former pupils include actor Simon Callow and children of ex-PMs Tony Blair and Sir Nick Clegg.
A fire brigade spokesperson said: “Crews from Fulham, Chelsea, Kensington, Wandsworth, Hammersmith, Clapham, Lambeth, and Soho stations attended. The cause of the fire is under joint investigation with the Met Police.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea and Fulham MP Greg Hands expressed concern, tweeting: “Lots of helicopter noise overhead this part of Fulham too.” He is in contact with police as investigations continue.
