Man Dies After Stockport Robbery and Crash – Murder Inquiry Launched
A 53-year-old man has died in hospital following a violent robbery and car crash in Stockport. Police have launched a murder investigation after the tragic incident on Friday night.
Robbery Sparks High-Speed Crash in Romiley
Just after 9pm on Friday, officers responded to a reported road traffic collision at the junction of Lyme Grove and Hazel Avenue, Romiley. It’s believed a vehicle was stolen from the victim during a robbery and then collided with him shortly after.
The man was rushed to hospital in critical condition but sadly passed away on Sunday afternoon (10 January 2021).
Teen Arrested – Police Hunt Stolen Silver Mercedes
A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in custody. Detectives are searching for a silver Mercedes thought to have been taken during the crime.
Chief Inspector Liam Boden of GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “This is an extremely tragic case which has rocked the community and left a family utterly devastated.”
He added: “We believe there were others involved and are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry. We urge the public to come forward with any information—no matter how small.”
Anyone who spotted a silver Mercedes acting suspiciously around the time or location of the incident, or has CCTV/dashcam footage, is asked to contact police immediately.
