15-Year-Old Boy Dies After Hit-and-Run Crash in Risley

Tragic Collision on Derby Road

A 15-year-old boy, Adam Barry from Sandiacre, has died following a hit-and-run crash in Risley last night (Saturday 25 April). Emergency services were called at 9.15pm after reports of a serious collision on Derby Road, where Adam, who was riding his bike, was struck by a car.

Despite being rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre, Adam sadly passed away. Specialist officers are supporting his family, and police have urged the public to respect their privacy during this heartbreaking time.

Driver Flees Scene – Police Hunt Key Witnesses

The vehicle involved was believed to be travelling from Borrowash towards Risley when it struck Adam just outside the village. The driver did not stop and reportedly drove through Stanton, Ilkeston, and Heanor after the crash.

Derby Road was closed overnight while officers examined the scene, reopening at 5am. Police are now desperately seeking witnesses, especially anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from 8.30pm to 9.45pm in Risley, Stanton, or Ilkeston.

Detective Sergeant Darren Muggleton said: “We are following several crucial leads, but we need the public’s help to find evidence. If anyone saw a car with significant damage to the front nearside, or has footage of the incident or the fleeing vehicle, please get in touch immediately.”

  • Report any dashcam or CCTV footage showing Derby Road between 8.30pm and 9.45pm on 25 April.
  • Look out for a car with heavy damage to the front nearside.
  • Check any footage from Stanton, Ilkeston, Heanor, or Sandiacre from the same evening.
