Met Police Nab Suspect After Chelsea’s Online Complaint

Officers from the Met’s Central Football Unit swooped on a Retford address in the early hours of Monday, 8 February. The 21-year-old man was arrested as part of an investigation launched last year after Chelsea FC flagged several offensive and hateful tweets linked to him.

21-Year-Old Released Pending Further Enquiries

The suspect was later released under investigation, with inquiries still ongoing. Police say the probe is far from over as they continue to hunt down those responsible for online abuse.

Met Cops Warn: No Safe Haven for Online Trolls

Inspector Matt Ashmead, Met Central Football Unit, said:

“This action proves that the internet is no safe refuge for trolls to target people with hateful, offensive or racist abuse. Online abuse is not victimless and we will look to identify those responsible and take action.”
