Drunk Driver Ploughs at Cop Before Crashing and Fleeing in Ashford
Chaos broke out in Ashford town centre on Friday, 25 February 2022, around 10pm. Police were tipped off about a man who had been drinking and was planning to drive home. Officers quickly tracked him down to a nearby car park.
Cop Forced to Leap as Car Charges at Him
As police tried to stop the suspect from leaving, one officer bravely stood in front of the vehicle. Shockingly, the driver pushed on, forcing the officer to leap out of the way just in time. The car then sped off, ignoring all signals to stop.
Crash and Chase Ends in Arrest
- CCTV footage helped police follow the vehicle to another spot where it smashed into a road sign and came to a halt.
- The driver fled on foot but was caught by officers on Upper Queens Road.
- The man, 25, from Ashford, was arrested on multiple serious charges.
Serious Charges Laid as Enquiries Continue
The suspect now faces an array of accusations including attempted grievous bodily harm, drink driving, dangerous driving, and failing to stop after a collision. He has been released under investigation while police continue their enquiries.
