Drunk Driver Rams Cop, Makes Daring Getaway – Then Crashes
Late on Friday, 25 February 2022, Ashford town centre patrols received a worrying tip-off. A man was said to be drinking and planning to drive home. Officers raced to a nearby car park to stop him.
Cop Nearly Gets Mowed Down
One brave officer stepped in front of the vehicle to block its exit. The driver ignored the warning and sped towards the cop, who just managed to leap out of the way. The car then sped off, despite clear signals to stop.
Crash, Foot Chase, Arrest
- CCTV tracked the car to a second spot where it had smashed into a road sign and stopped.
- The driver bolted on foot but was quickly caught on Upper Queens Road.
The 25-year-old man from Ashford now faces charges including attempted grievous bodily harm, drink driving, dangerous driving, and failing to stop after a collision. He’s since been released under investigation as police continue their enquiries.
