Man, 53, Arrested by Met in Terror Probe Over Explosive Substance

Counter Terror Unit Moves In

On Monday, 22 March, Met Police’s Counter Terrorism Command swooped on a south-west London address, arresting a 53-year-old man on suspicion of possessing an explosive substance.

He was initially detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).

Further Terror Charges on Tuesday

The next day, 23 March, the suspect was hit with further charges, arrested under Section 40(1)(B) of the Terrorism Act 2000. He now faces suspicion of planning or instigating a terror act.

He remains in custody at a central London police station as inquiries ramp up.

Scene Locked Down, No Evacuations

Specialist officers continue to scour the property. A cordon is firmly in place, but nearby residents have been spared evacuation, with risks assessed as low.
