Vile Vandal Scrawls “IRA” on Sir Tom Moore Tribute
A heartbreaking act of vandalism targeted a new sculpture honouring NHS hero Sir Tom Moore just days after his death at 100.
The life-sized steel silhouette was installed at Thistley Place Meadow, a nature reserve in Derbyshire, but overnight it was defaced with the word “IRA” daubed in white paint.
Local Hero Cleaned Up Horrific Graffiti
Anthony Ball, chairman of the Dove Valley Community Project, discovered the offensive scribble during his morning walk. “It made me feel physically sick,” he said. “I had to go back home and fetch a bin bag to cover him. I couldn’t let people see that graffiti.”
He added, “I hope they’re pleased with themselves, it’s beyond belief.” The vandalism is believed to have happened between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Fabricators Furious Over Disrespect
AGC Fabrications, the Burton firm that crafted the statue, have slammed the senseless attack. They previously donated a soldier statue to replace a stolen war memorial in the same village.
“We are disgusted by the actions of a mindless person,” said Austin Cox of AGC. “Sir Tom was an inspiration during the pandemic. To see such disrespect on our memorial upsets us and the whole community.”
They vowed to repaint, repair, or replace the sculpture as needed.
