Young Man Dies in Stabbing Near Northampton University

At 8.40pm on Sunday, tragedy struck New South Bridge Road in Northampton. Despite paramedics’ desperate efforts, a man was found dead at the scene following a stabbing.

The street leads straight to the University of Northampton’s Waterside campus, where police have cordoned off the area with a blue tent set up Monday morning.

Four Arrested in Connection to Stabbing

Police have arrested three young men aged 18 and 19, plus an 18-year-old woman. All remain in custody as detectives launch a full investigation.

New South Bridge Road sits between a private housing development and a cluster of four-storey student flats. It’s still unclear if the victim or those arrested are university students.

Police Work Overnight, Seek Witnesses

Detective Inspector Simon Barnes offered his condolences to the victim’s family, saying:

“First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to this young man’s family. Specially trained officers are supporting them during this terrible time. We are committed to bringing those responsible to justice.”

“A lot of work went into making these arrests overnight. We’ll begin questioning the suspects today.”

“If you witnessed anything or have information, no matter how small, please come forward. Your help is vital.”

Community on Edge as Police Boost Patrols

Police say this was likely a targeted attack but understand community concerns. Extra neighbourhood policing patrols will reassure residents.

“Anyone worried can approach our officers, who are ready to help,” DI Barnes added.

The University of Northampton released a statement: “Our community is deeply saddened by this news. We will support staff and students fully and assist police investigations.”
