Man Found Dead in Walthamstow Park Sparks Murder Probe

A murder investigation is underway after a man’s body was found by a brook in St James Park, Walthamstow.

Victim Identified as Local Man

Police were alerted around 1.40pm on Monday, 24 August after a member of the public discovered a man unresponsive in the park. The victim, believed to be 37-year-old Yassar Mustakim Moussa, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support.

A post-mortem revealed Yassar died from a stab wound to the neck. He was last heard from on Saturday evening, 22 August.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Information

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime North command are urgently seeking details from anyone who was in or near St James Park over the weekend. They want to know if you noticed any suspicious vehicles at the park’s north or south entrances or saw anything unusual.

DCI Larry Smith said: “A man’s life has been brutally taken and his body left in a park. We need to know Yassar’s movements from Saturday, 22 August. My team will work tirelessly to find those responsible. If you were in the park or nearby, think back – did you see anything out of the ordinary? If you don’t want to speak to us directly, please contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”

Community Shocked, Police Boost Patrols

Acting North East Borough Commander Waheed Khan expressed condolences to Yassar’s family and urged local residents to come forward.

“My thoughts are with Yassar’s loved ones, who must be devastated by his death and the callous way he was treated. The community will be shocked, but rest assured police are doing all they can to find those responsible. Expect increased patrols in the area—we are here to listen if you have any concerns.”

Enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have been made so far.
