Performer’s High-Wire Fall Sparks Major Emergency at Hastings Circus
Chaos hit the Gravity Circus at Glyne Gap Field, Hastings, on Monday evening when a tightrope acrobat plummeted from a height during a daring high-wire act. Emergency services, including South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance, rushed to the scene.
Tense Moments as Acrobat Loses Balance
The incident unfolded at around 4:45pm on August 19th. The performer, an adult female, lost her balance mid-act and fell. Known for a stellar safety record, Gravity Circus immediately triggered their emergency protocol.
Emergency Services Quick to Respond
A SECAmb spokesperson confirmed: “We were called at 4:45pm yesterday after reports of a person falling from height. An ambulance and Critical Care Paramedic were dispatched. The Air Ambulance attended but did not transport the patient.”
The spokeswoman added: “The patient suffered facial and other injuries consistent with a fall. She was treated at the scene before being taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious but not life-threatening injuries.”
Gravity Circus Speaks Out
In a statement, Gravity Circus management said: “An accident occurred last night involving one of our tightrope performers during the show. Despite strict safety measures, accidents can happen in live high-risk performances. Our emergency protocols were enacted immediately, and the performer was rushed to hospital.”
“Our primary concern is the well-being of the performer, their family, the high-wire troupe, and the entire circus family. We are closely monitoring the situation and conducting a thorough investigation.”

The circus community has felt the weight of public support. “We are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and care shown by our customers and supporters during this difficult time,” the spokesperson added.
The injured acrobat remains under close medical observation. Though her injuries are serious, medics do not believe her condition is life-threatening at this time.
