Blaze Ravages Southampton Building – Police Seek Vital Witnesses

A ferocious fire broke out at a vacant commercial building under construction on St Mary Street, Southampton, earlier today, sparking a major emergency response from Hampshire Constabulary and Fire & Rescue crews.

Homes Evacuated as Flames Rage

The blaze was reported at 2pm, prompting the evacuation of nearby homes and businesses as firefighters battled the fierce flames. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the fire is now extinguished but crews remain on site damping down hotspots. Some residents unable to return due to damage have been offered emergency accommodation by Southampton City Council. Others have safely gone back home.

Police Hunt Three Men Seen on Building Roof

Detective Sergeant Marcus Baker revealed investigators are probing the cause of the fire. “This fire had a huge impact on the local community and many people gathered to watch,” he said.

“We want to speak to anyone with information, especially three men seen on the roof at around 12:30pm. We have received several reports and are releasing their image to identify them. If it’s you, please come forward so we know you are safe.”

DS Baker added: “If you or anyone else was in or near the building before the blaze, your information could be crucial. Also, if you recorded footage of the fire, please share it with us.”
