Bembridge Point Panic: Suspected Bomb Turns Out to Be Digger Pin

A tense cordon sprang up at Bembridge Point on the Isle of Wight after a member of the public reported what looked like unexploded ordnance on Sunday afternoon.

Bomb Scare Sparks Emergency Response

A local resident spotted a large metal object, about two feet long, partially buried in the sand. Alarmed, they called Bembridge Coastguard, who rushed to the scene. The Coastguard quickly sealed off the area and sent photos to the Royal Navy’s Bomb Disposal (EOD) team for assessment.

False Alarm as Digger Part Uncovered

By 5.40pm, the mystery was solved. Nigle Bennett, owner of a nearby gravel yard, identified the object as a digger bucket pin. He confidently picked it up, chucking it on the ground before carrying the “lost” pin back to his yard.

The bomb squad and Coastguard have since lifted the cordon and stood down, confirming there was no danger.
