Tragedy in East London: One Dead and Two Seriously Injured as Car Smashes Into Popular Pub

A horrific crash has claimed one life and left two others with serious injuries after a car slammed into the Albert Bow pub in East London in the early hours of Sunday.

Deadly Crash Rocks Bow Pub

Just before 2am on Sunday, July 20, emergency crews rushed to St Stephen’s Road, Bow, following reports of a silver car crashing straight into the front of the bustling Albert Bow pub. The vehicle was embedded deep into the building, causing severe damage and chaos.

One Dead, Two Injured — Including Life-Altering Wounds

Police and London Ambulance Service confirm one passenger was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Two others, including the driver and a passenger — both men in their twenties — were injured. One man has sustained life-changing injuries. Thankfully, these injuries are not life-threatening.

A massive emergency response mobilised, with ambulance crews and Met Police officers struggling to free a person trapped in the wreckage.

Forensic Teams Swarm Crash Site As Investigation Continues

Two forensic tents remain stationed outside the pub as investigators from the Met Police Roads and Transport Policing Command comb the scene for clues. Eyewitness photos show the car’s front end badly smashed, glass and debris strewn across the pavement, and serious structural damage to the pub’s frontage.

Residents described being woken by a “huge bang” followed by screams and the wail of sirens. One local said, “It was terrifying. The impact shook the whole block. I ran outside and saw the car wedged in the building.”

The road remains partially closed as safety assessments and forensic work continue.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

Police are asking anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward. Witnesses should call the Met Police on 101 referencing incident 615/20Jul.

Suspects in Custody After Fatal Crash

A Met Police spokesperson confirmed that the driver and the other injured passenger have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A crime scene remains in place as specialists continue their inquiries.
