Chancellor Salutes Construction Heroes Keeping Britain Moving
The Chancellor has paid a heartfelt tribute to the tireless workers across Britain’s construction industry. Amid tough times, their efforts have never been more vital.
Building Britain Through the Crisis
From sprawling construction sites to bustling builders’ merchants, logistics hubs, and manufacturers of essential construction and mineral products, the industry is delivering — and delivering big.
Whether erecting temporary hospital wards, fitting life-saving oxygen systems, or maintaining the crucial infrastructure that keeps society ticking, construction workers are stepping up.
“You are delivering for our Nation through this difficult time,” the Chancellor said. “My heartfelt thanks go to each and every one of you supporting our national effort.”
Work Safely, Keep Building
The Government urges people to stay home where possible. But for many in construction, travelling to work remains essential — and perfectly allowed under the Chief Medical Officer’s advice.
To keep sites safe, the Construction Leadership Council has developed detailed Site Operating Procedures (SOPs). These follow Public Health England guidance and will be updated as new health advice comes in.
Ongoing Support from the Top
The Chancellor is in constant contact with industry leaders to tackle emerging challenges head-on. He assured workers of continued engagement and support throughout this crisis.
“You are making a hugely valued and critical contribution to the resilience of our Nation,” he added. “I salute you for your enormous efforts in supporting the UK.”
