UK Unveils Groundbreaking Radio Wave Weapon to Zap Enemy Drones
The UK is gearing up to supercharge its military firepower with a pioneering Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW). This cutting-edge tech uses radio waves to disable enemy electronics and take down multiple drones at once, marking a massive leap in defence capabilities.
Cheap, Powerful & Deadly Against Drone Swarms
- RFDEW fires radio pulses that disrupt or crush enemy vehicles’ vital electronics.
- Effective up to 1km with plans to extend range further.
- Costs a mere 10p per shot, smashing missile defence costs.
- High automation means just one operator needed.
- Can target single threats or entire drone swarms simultaneously.
“This tech drastically boosts our warfighting edge and protects personnel against growing unmanned threats,” said Defence Minister James Cartlidge. The weapon’s rapid-fire capabilities provide instant airspace protection at a fraction of traditional costs.
Project Hersa: UK Innovation at Its Finest
The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), together with Defence Equipment & Support and industry partners, leads “Project Hersa” to develop RFDEW. CEO Paul Hollinshead hailed the weapon as a “game-changer,” built on decades of research and investment in defence science.
Built for versatility, RFDEW fits onto various military vehicles, powered by mobile sources. It can engage threats on land, air, or sea with pinpoint accuracy or wide-area coverage.
On Track for Summer Field Trials
British soldiers will test RFDEW in the field this summer, a key step before frontline deployment. With global threats evolving fast, the UK’s commitment to tech innovation ensures it stays ahead in defence and keeps its forces safe.
RFDEW is more than just a new gadget. It’s a bold statement of Britain’s intent to defend its interests and maintain world peace with cutting-edge military muscle.
