Bomb Hoax Suspect Nabbed in South London and Surrey Spree

Detectives have arrested a 63-year-old man suspected of making multiple bomb hoaxes across south London and Surrey. The arrest came on Monday, 24 February, following a joint crackdown by the Met Police and Surrey Police.

Six Bomb Hoaxes Trigger Store Evacuations

  • Sunday, 16 Feb, 11:46am – Met Police rushed to a supermarket in Beddington Lane, Waddon, London.
  • Monday, 17 Feb, 1:48pm – Another threat at a Beddington Lane supermarket in Waddon.
  • Friday, 21 Feb, 11:00am – Surrey Police responded to a shop in Sutton High Street, London.
  • Friday, 21 Feb, 11:30am – Surrey Police attended a supermarket on Banstead High Street, Surrey.
  • Friday, 21 Feb, 4:30pm – Epsom’s Kiln Lane supermarket was targeted.
  • Saturday, 22 Feb, 4:20pm – Valley Retail Park shop in Croydon faced a bomb threat.

All stores were promptly evacuated as a precaution. Officers conducted thorough searches at each location. Thankfully, every incident was eventually stood down with no explosive devices found.

Investigation Still Underway

The arrested man remains in police custody as the probe continues. Police urge anyone with information to come forward as they work to bring those responsible to justice.
