Woman Raped on Footbridge Near Fareham Station

A 22-year-old woman was brutally attacked and raped on a footbridge over Western Way, close to Fareham train station, in the early hours of Saturday 19 March.

The victim had left the Slug and Lettuce around 1am and was walking along West Street when an unknown man approached her. He threatened her before launching the horrific assault on the footbridge between 1:20am and 2:05am.

Police Hunt Blonde-Grey Bearded Suspect

Officers describe the suspect as:

  • White male, aged 20s to 40s
  • Approximately 5ft 11in tall
  • Slim build
  • Full beard, blond and grey
  • Medium-length hair

Hampshire Constabulary has released CCTV footage from the Aldi supermarket on West Street showing a man they urgently need to identify and question about the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Issues Urgent Appeal

“We need to identify this man urgently as part of our enquiries, and I am confident that if you know the person in this footage you will recognise him when you watch it,” said Detective Chief Inspector Roger Wood, of Operation Amberstone.

“My plea to the public is to please take a moment to look at this footage, and call us immediately if you have any information.

I urge the person in this footage to come forward and speak with us about this investigation.

Anyone who was in Fareham town centre between midnight and 3am on 19 March — especially near the train station — please get in touch. Did you see suspicious behaviour? Were you driving through the area with a dashcam? Every detail can help.”

Detectives continue to patrol the area and follow every lead as they hunt the attacker.
