Detectives have announced they are no longer appealing for the public’s assistance to locate three men in connection with the tragic death of 20-year-old Jason Romeo, who was fatally stabbed in Hackney last week.
Jason was attacked outside an address on Bodney Street, E5, at approximately 17:59hrs on Tuesday, 18 February. Despite emergency services’ best efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene, sparking a murder investigation led by the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.
On Friday, 22 February, three men — aged 22, 21, and 21 — were arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody as inquiries continue.
Detective Superintendent Kelly Allen, who is leading the investigation, expressed gratitude for the public’s response to previous appeals.
“I would like to thank the public for their support following an appeal issued yesterday to identify three men,” said Det Supt Allen. “This investigation is progressing quickly, and our officers are working tirelessly to get justice for Jason and his family.”
Though the appeal for the three men has been withdrawn, detectives continue to seek information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has knowledge that could assist the investigation.
“We are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have information which could support this investigation to come forward,” Det Supt Allen added. “Specifically, we are looking to identify two men who we believe were in the area at the time of Jason’s death.”
The community has been left shaken by Jason’s tragic death, with tributes pouring in from friends and family who describe him as a “kind-hearted and ambitious young man.”
Police are urging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to get in touch by calling 101, quoting reference number [insert reference], or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
The murder investigation remains ongoing.
