Over 50 firefighters and 10 fire engines battled a massive fire that tore through a historic thatched cottage in Poulner, Ringwood, overnight Saturday. The stunning home was left in ruins, reduced to smouldering rubble by dawn.
Firefighters Join Forces in Overnight Battle
The alarm was raised late Saturday evening, triggering a huge emergency response. Fire crews from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue teamed up with Dorset & Wiltshire counterparts to contain the inferno. Despite their heroic efforts, the thatched property suffered catastrophic damage, with parts of it partially collapsed and still burning on Sunday morning.

“Last night we were alerted to a fire at a thatched cottage in Poulner, Ringwood,” said Group Manager Jim Couch.
“Ten fire engines and over 50 firefighters were swiftly on scene to tackle the blaze. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.”
“Thanks to our colleagues from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service who worked with us all evening. Unfortunately, there’s significant damage. It’s a devastating loss for the residents, but thankfully no one was injured.”

Local witness Simon Rowley summed up the devastation: “The home is completely, absolutely and totally destroyed. There’s nothing left of the place.”
