Massive Container Ship Catches Fire Near Portsmouth
The One Humber, a colossal container ship flying the Panamanian flag, was rocked by a fire early on February 14. Flames erupted in the engine room just after 5.25am as the vessel steamed through the Solent off Portsmouth, triggering a rapid emergency response.
Coastguard Charges In and Snuffs Out Blaze
HM Coastguard wasted no time, rushing rescue vessels to the scene. Their swift action put the fire out quickly, preventing disaster. Tugs later towed the damaged ship safely into Southampton.
“No one was reported injured and the crew was accounted for. There were no reports of pollution,” confirmed an HM Coastguard spokesperson.
