Eight Arrested After Speedboat Human Trafficking Bust in Kent

In a major overnight operation, eight suspects were hauled in over human trafficking as police and Border Force officers intercepted a speedboat landing on a Kent beach.

Speedboat Stopped in Early Hours

The Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU), Kent Police, and Border Force swooped on a speedboat touching down in Walmer in the early hours of Friday, 3 August. Eight people were arrested on the spot and in follow-up raids.

Suspects Include Two UK Men and Four Vietnamese Nationals

  • Four Vietnamese nationals detained on suspicion of immigration offences.
  • A 35-year-old man from Eyeworth, Bedfordshire, arrested for conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration.
  • A 34-year-old man from Oxford also arrested on similar charges.
  • Three other men apprehended later and held for questioning.

“Clamping down on human trafficking and illegal entry into the UK is one of ERSOU’s key priorities and we’re really pleased with the results from today’s operation,” said Detective Sergeant James Panter.

He added: “We will continue to work closely with our partners to tackle criminals across the eastern region and thank Border Force for their vital support.”
