A family dog turned violent in Woodchurch late on Saturday night (February 15, 2025), leaving two adults badly injured and police rushing to the scene to protect three young children. The attack happened just before midnight on Sunflower Close, sending shockwaves through the quiet neighbourhood.
Injuries and Chaos at the Scene
Merseyside Police responded swiftly after an emergency call. Inside the home, three children were present but quickly secured in a separate room to keep them safe.
The male victim sustained deep lacerations to his right ankle, multiple puncture wounds on his forearms and hands, and a fractured right hand. The female victim suffered a puncture wound to her right cheek and severe cuts and bruising on her forearms. Both were rushed to hospital for urgent treatment.
How It All Began
“The attack started during what should have been a harmless game of hide and seek,” explained Chief Inspector Dave Atkinson. “The dog suddenly began growling aggressively at the children. When the male occupant tried to step in, it quickly escalated into a full-blown attack.”
Police Act Quickly; Dog to Be Euthanised
Officers managed to restrain the aggressive dog, ensuring the children’s safety amid chaos. The dog’s owners have since handed the animal over. Authorities plan to have the dog humanely euthanised while confirming its breed.
