Tragic Fire in Hither Green Claims Man’s Life
A deadly house fire tore through Leahurst Road, Hither Green, in the early hours of October 12. A man died at the scene while a woman was rushed to hospital after emergency crews battled the blaze.
Emergency Crews Race to Scene
Around 3:00 am, fire crews and ambulances were scrambled following reports of the inferno. The London Fire Brigade’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), two ambulance crews, an incident response officer, and an air ambulance all rushed to Leahurst Road.
Despite their heroic efforts, a man in his 70s was pronounced dead on site. A woman in her 60s was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains unknown as the London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police launch a full investigation. Police confirmed they arrived just after 3 am and worked alongside the London Ambulance Service and firefighters at the scene.
“We sent a number of resources, including two ambulance crews, an incident response officer, members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and London’s air ambulance,” a London Ambulance Service spokesperson said.
A Met Police spokesman added: “A man aged in his 70s was found deceased. A woman aged in her 60s was taken to hospital; her condition is not life-threatening. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
