Vandals Deface Historic Church in Sawbridgeworth
Thugs have targeted Great St Mary’s Church in Sawbridgeworth, causing damage to the sacred site. Police are hunting for witnesses after vile graffiti was etched into fresh lime render on the church’s side wall.
Offenders Scrawl Offensive Messages and Leave Footprints
The damage happened between noon on Tuesday 7 June and 4:50pm on Thursday 9 June. As the render dried, vandals kicked it and scribbled offensive, inappropriate messages right into the wet surface, leaving several footprints behind.
Community Outraged at Attack on Grade I Listed Landmark
PCSO Amanda Higham from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team slammed the attacks. “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and has, understandably, caused a great deal of upset among the local community,” she said.
Great St Mary’s Church isn’t just any building. It’s the town’s only Grade I listed structure and a consecrated place of worship, making this vandalism a serious offence.
Police Seek Help to Track Down the Culprits
Officers urge anyone with information to come forward and help bring these feral yobs to justice. The community is keen to see swift action against those who dare to disrespect this treasured landmark.
