Fire Crews Struggle to Free Driver Trapped in Flipped Car in Twickenham
Heath Road in Twickenham is shut both ways after a dramatic crash left a car overturned outside a row of shops this afternoon.
Car Flips onto Roof Outside Shops
At just after 3pm on Wednesday, a light blue Vauxhall Astra mounted the pavement, smashed the kerb, and flipped onto its roof. It came to rest in the middle of the road right outside the Consol Tanning Centre.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Multiple ambulances and a London Ambulance HART team arrived swiftly alongside firefighters. They are working hard to stabilize the vehicle and free the trapped driver.
“Heard an almighty bang about an hour ago. Thought it was thunder, then saw the car on its roof,” said Paul Sarahs, a freelance football commentator who witnessed the crash.
Traffic Chaos and Road Closures
- Heath Road is closed in both directions.
- Bus routes 110, 267, 281, 290, 490, and H22 are being diverted.
- Over 10 buses have been stuck waiting to get through.
- Surrounding roads are gridlocked as drivers seek alternate routes.
Police remain on the scene, and the road closure is expected to last for several hours as emergency crews continue their rescue efforts.
