Man Shot by Police in Greenwich, South East London
A man has been shot by armed police in Greenwich, South East London, this afternoon (Friday, August 5). Emergency services, including armed officers and an air ambulance, rushed to the scene after reports of a man seen with a gun.
Scene Locked Down, Airlift to Hospital
At around 2:30pm, police responded to multiple calls about the armed suspect on Creek Road, near Greenwich Market. The man was shot and then airlifted to a major trauma centre. Authorities say his injuries are not life-threatening, and he is currently in stable condition.
Greenwich West Police confirmed: “There was a serious incident on Creek Road between Greenwich Town Centre and Deptford. The road is closed. Please avoid the area.” Traffic has been diverted via Greenwich High Road and Deptford, causing delays including on the A2 Blackheath Hill.
Locals Locked In as Nursery Doors Shut
Tense moments for locals as nursery staff at Maritime Minis locked their doors to protect children. An employee told MyLondon: “We were not allowed to take the kids outside. We only heard there was a gun when the chef told us to lock up.”
Residents reported hearing a faint gunshot around 2pm, with many too scared to leave their homes. One local said: “My daughter said, ‘Dad, there are cops everywhere.’ The air ambulance landed near the Laban Dance School. The gunshot was very quiet but scary.”
Police Confirm No Terror Link, Investigation Ongoing
The Met Police have confirmed the incident is not terror-related and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Officers continue their investigation on-site. The man shot is reported to be in good condition.
The police spokesperson added: “London Ambulance Service and the air ambulance attended. The man was treated at the scene before being transported. His injuries are not life-threatening.”
Police urge everyone to avoid Creek Road and surrounding areas while the investigation continues.
