Chip Shop Blaze Sparks Midnight Evacuation in Chandlers Ford
A chip shop fire in Chandlers Ford forced the evacuation of eight flats and left several residents needing treatment for smoke inhalation.
Massive Fire Response From Across Hampshire
More than 50 firefighters from Eastleigh, Redbridge, St Mary’s, Hightown, Romsey, Winchester, and Portchester rushed to the Falkland Road takeaway just after 2am. They arrived to find flames and thick smoke pouring out.
Residents Evacuated, Chip Shop Destroyed
Fire crews swiftly evacuated the residents living above the shop. Using breathing apparatus, jets, and hose reels, they battled the blaze to a standstill. Sadly, the chip shop was completely destroyed.
Smoke Inhalation and Aftermath
Four residents inhaled light smoke and were treated on the scene by South Central Ambulance Service paramedics. Hampshire police were also present, working with fire investigators. The fire was finally declared out at 5:18am after the number of appliances was scaled back.
