Lewisham Man Charged with Double Murder of Two Women
Carl Cooper, 65, a construction worker from Lewisham, is gearing up for a high-profile trial in June 2024. He faces murder charges over the deaths of Naomi Hunte, 41, and Fiona Holm, 48—both women he was once involved with.
Naomi Hunte Found Dead in Woolwich Home
Naomi Hunte’s body was found at her Woolwich residence on Congleton Grove last February 14, nearly a week after she’d gone missing. She was partially clothed with a single stab wound to the chest.
Cooper, who lives near Hither Green on Broadfield Road, was arrested four days after Naomi was found. He was released on bail but remained under police investigation.
Search Underway for Missing Woman Fiona Holm
Fiona Holm was reported missing on June 29 this year. The last confirmed sighting was nine days earlier outside an off-licence in Verdant Lane, Bromley. Her family grew concerned after finding mouldy food in her fridge and dirty linen in her washing machine—signs she hadn’t been home for a while.
Police launched a murder probe and are now searching southeast London for Fiona’s body. A CCTV image believed to show Fiona’s last known movements has been released to the public.
Trial Delayed as Cooper Fails to Appear in Court
Cooper failed to appear in court on July 18, neither in person nor via video from Thameside prison. Judge Richard Marks KC pressed ahead and set a plea hearing for October 3. The trial will begin on June 4, 2024, lasting four weeks and overseen by a High Court judge.
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, leading the investigation, offered condolences to the victims’ families. She urged anyone with information about Fiona Holm’s whereabouts after June 20 to come forward, stressing that even small details could crack the case.
The ongoing trial and investigation aim to bring justice and closure to the families shattered by these tragic deaths.
