Glasgow Road Crash Claims Life Of Woman Travelling In Ambulance

Tragedy struck the east end of Glasgow on Sunday, September 24, 2023, when a road crash involving an ambulance and a taxi claimed the life of a 71-year-old woman. Police are now appealing for witnesses to provide information about the incident.

At approximately 10:25am that morning, police received reports of a road crash at the junction of London Road and Arcadia Street, where an ambulance had collided with a taxi. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene.

Sadly, the crash proved fatal for a 71-year-old woman who was traveling in the ambulance. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her relatives have been informed of the heartbreaking news.

A 38-year-old male paramedic, also in the ambulance at the time of the collision, sustained injuries and was promptly transported to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary for medical treatment. Thankfully, the female paramedic who was driving the ambulance and the male driver of the taxi did not require hospital treatment.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit West Command expressed condolences to the victim’s family and emphasised that extensive investigations are ongoing to determine the precise circumstances of the collision. The incident occurred at a busy junction, and authorities are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed it.

Coutts made a plea, saying, “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the lady who died, and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.” He added, “I am appealing to anyone who was on London Road or Arcadia Street around 10.25 am on Sunday morning, particularly those with dash-cam footage, to please come forward.”

Witnesses or individuals with information that could aid the investigation are encouraged to contact Police Scotland via the non-emergency number 101. When getting in touch, please quote incident number 1101 of Sunday, September 24, 2023.
