Pedestrian killed in early hours crash as van ploughs into homes in Kent

Just after midnight on Saturday, November 27, Kent Police rushed to a tragic scene on Luton Road, near Short Street, where a Ford Transit van fatally struck a man in his 40s.

Van hits pedestrian before smashing into homes

The van was driving from Luton towards Chatham Hill when it hit the man, who was walking on the footpath. The victim, a local from the Medway area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the collision, the van careered into two nearby properties, coming to a halt against the buildings.

Three men arrested over fatal crash

An unknown number of occupants fled the van on foot. However, police caught and arrested a 45-year-old man from Spalding, Lincolnshire, at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Later, two additional men aged 25 and 35 from Chatham were also arrested on the same suspicion. All three remain in police custody as inquiries continue.

Police hunt for witnesses and footage

Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Investigators are especially keen to gather CCTV or dashcam footage that might show any of those involved.
