Knife-Wielding Man Arrested After Rooftop Standoff in Kingswood
Kent Police sealed off Pitt Road and Gravelly Bottom Road in Kingswood after a dramatic rooftop standoff that lasted over three hours from Thursday night into the early hours of Friday. A man armed with a knife was finally arrested following the tense incident.
Armed Police and Helicopter Swarm the Scene
The showdown began around 12:30am, when the man climbed onto the roof of a house, brandishing a knife. Police set up a large cordon and deployed armed officers equipped with tasers and shields to try to coax him down. At one point, officers were seen entering the property.
Maidstone’s fire crew and an advanced paramedic rushed to the scene. Kent Police Tactical Operations, a dog unit, and response teams all joined the tense standoff. A police helicopter from Redhill hovered overhead, streaming live footage to control for nearly two hours before it had to leave due to low fuel.
Domestic Dispute Sparks Dangerous Incident
Sources suggest the man had been involved in a domestic argument before taking refuge on the roof. Kent Fire and Rescue’s drone team was put on standby but wasn’t needed.
Man Detained and Held on Assault Charges
The man was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault. It remains unclear if anyone was injured during the ordeal or the condition of the man’s father involved in the dispute. Police confirmed the suspect is currently in custody.
