Blaze Breaks Out Under Brighton Gym

This afternoon, emergency services rushed to Crowhurst Road, Hollingbury, Brighton, after a fire broke out beneath PHX Gym. Police and the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) scrambled to the scene, blocking the road and launching a full-scale response.

Firefighters Deploy Ladder and Hoses

The fire service brought in an aerial ladder, multiple fire engines, and a mobile command unit to tackle the blaze. Eyewitnesses and gym members were evacuated after smelling smoke, with crews expected to remain for several hours as efforts continue.

Buses Diverted as Police Seal Off Area

Crowhurst Road remains closed, with police blocking access while firefighters work. All buses serving Hollingbury ASDA are being diverted and cannot stop at the store. Locals are advised to avoid the area and keep doors and windows shut due to smoke.

ESFRS Update on the Fire

“East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called at 18:28 today, 29 March 2023, to reports of a fire at a building on Crowhurst Road, Brighton.

As of 18:55, crews are using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, covering jets, and the aerial appliance to fight the fire.

The fire is affecting a two-storey commercial building used for storage and the gym. There are no reports of casualties. Police are supporting the scene.”
