Crash Chaos on TfW Line
A Transport for Wales train heading from Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central slammed into an agricultural trailer at a user-operated level crossing near Nordan Farm, just north of Leominster. The collision happened shortly after 10:40am, causing mayhem on board the 8:30am service.
Multiple Injuries and Airlift Emergency
- A male passenger was airlifted to Hereford County Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
- A female passenger was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
- At least 15 others were treated on-site by West Midlands Ambulance Service and later released.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the tractor-trailer driver or passengers.
Man Arrested Over Rail Safety Threat
Police detained a 32-year-old male from Bromyard on suspicion of endangering railway safety. He remains in custody as investigations continue, according to British Transport Police (BTP).
Lines Shut, Chaos for Commuters
All rail services between Hereford and Craven Arms are suspended, with TfW warning delays will continue through the day. Replacement bus services are in place, and TfW tickets are valid on Northern, Avanti West Coast, GWR, and CrossCountry trains.
RAIB on the Case
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has launched an initial probe to decide if a full investigation is necessary. The crossing requires users to manually open and close gates, raising questions about safety protocols.

“Our 8.30am service struck an obstruction near Leominster. We are working with emergency services and thank passengers for their patience,” a TfW spokesman said.
A BTP spokesperson added: “Enquiries into the full circumstances are ongoing.”
