Drama as Motorboat Breaks Down Near Broadstairs
A motorboat travelling from Chatham to Ramsgate hit trouble on Sunday afternoon while crossing Louisa Bay in Broadstairs. Engine failure left the vessel stranded and drifting dangerously close to shore.
Coastguard Calls in Ramsgate RNLI Rescue Teams
At 2.45pm on December 4, the Coastguard sent out an emergency signal. Ramsgate RNLI’s relief all-weather lifeboat was dispatched immediately. Upon arrival, rescuers found the yacht battered by incoming waves, which were breaking over its bow. The boat was at risk of sinking.
Swift Lifeboat Rescue Saves Two
The inshore Ramsgate lifeboat was launched to reach the shallow waters where the yacht had drifted. Both casualties were quickly moved from the stricken yacht to the all-weather lifeboat. They were taken inside the wheelhouse to warm up and await safe passage.
