Major Rescue Operation Underway After Person Falls from Southampton's Itchen Bridge

A full-scale search and rescue mission is underway in Southampton after a person plummeted from the city’s iconic Itchen Bridge into the water below.

Emergency Services Rush to Scene

Police, Fire crews, and Coastguard teams from Hillhead and Southampton have joined forces in the urgent operation. South Central Ambulance Service dispatched a paramedic team along with their specialist Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene.

It’s not yet clear if officers were already in contact with the individual before the fall.

Air and Water Support Join the Hunt

The dramatic rescue effort also includes the UK Coastguard’s Search and Rescue helicopter, Rescue 175, based at Lee on the Solent. Two lifeboats from Calshot and Hamble Independent lifeboats station are combing the water.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 2.48pm reporting someone had fallen from the bridge into the water. We are currently at the scene with an ambulance, a paramedic team leader, and the hazardous area response team. Several other services are involved in searching the water.”
