A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a 96-year-old woman dead in a house fire in East Hampshire.
Emergency services were called to Mill Road in Liss early Friday morning after receiving reports of a fire.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and found the elderly woman, who was pronounced dead.
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary stated: “We were called at 5.18am on Friday 17 May to a report of a fire at an address in Mill Road, Liss. Upon officer attendance, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that a 96-year-old woman had been pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.”
An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the blaze, and a scene will remain in place while these inquiries are carried out.
