A man was arrested near Buckingham Palace tonight (Friday 25 August) on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assaulting police. Officers stopped him at The Mall around 8:35pm after spotting him carrying a knife.

Trouble flared during the arrest when two male officers sustained minor arm injuries. London Ambulance Service attended the scene and treated them, but they did not need hospital care.

No one else was hurt in the incident. Police are still on site as investigations continue.
