Man Held After Blaze at Gosport Home Left Kids Alone
A 41-year-old man remains in custody tonight after a fire tore through a house on Turners Avenue, Gosport. Police and firefighters stormed the scene on Friday evening following chilling reports that two young children had been left alone inside.
Dramatic Rescue as Firefighters Smash Door
Emergency crews forced their way into the property and found a small blaze burning on the stairs. The six and nine-year-old children, who thankfully escaped unharmed, were found outside the house and are now being cared for by neighbours.
Arson Suspect Arrested at Scene
The man, believed to be the partner of local woman Rachael Redford, was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. Witnesses say he returned to the property, reportedly drunk, just as emergency services arrived.
House Also Used as Illegal Puppy Farm
Neighbours revealed the property was being used as a puppy farm, with over 40 small dogs reportedly kept inside. Police and arson specialists worked late into the night, combing the house and surrounding area for evidence alongside Scenes of Crime officers.
