Man Rushed to Hospital After Being Hit on Head by Falling Object at Plumstead Site

A man was seriously injured this morning after an object fell down a lift shaft and struck him on the head at a Plumstead building site. Emergency services were scrambled to the scene just after 9am on Wednesday, December 18.

Emergency Teams Respond Quickly

London Ambulance Service, Fire Brigade, and the Air Ambulance landed at the junction of Plumstead Road and Villas Road within minutes of the incident. Paramedics, including the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), treated the worker on site before rushing him to a major trauma centre for urgent care.

“We were called at 8:51am to reports of an incident at a building site in Plumstead,” said a London Ambulance Service spokesperson. “Ambulance crews, HART members, an incident response officer, and London’s Air Ambulance were sent to the scene. The man was treated before being taken to a major trauma centre.”

Police and Health and Safety Executive Launch Investigation

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they attended the scene at 9:05am. Officers found the man injured by an item falling down the lift shaft, which has since been sealed off to prevent further danger.

“Officers were called to 95 Plumstead Road after reports a man had been hit on the head by a falling object. The lift shaft has been secured and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been notified,” said police.
