Nurse Dies After COVID-19 Battle at Margate Hospital
A beloved nurse at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate has tragically died after testing positive for COVID-19. Aimee O’Rourke, 39, passed away in the hospital’s Critical Care Unit late on Thursday, 2 April.
From Caring Daughter to Devoted Nurse
Aimee joined the Acute Medical Unit as a newly qualified nurse in 2017. Ward manager Julie Gammon described her as “kind and caring” with a special bond to patients and colleagues alike. Despite starting nursing later in life after raising her own family, Aimee’s passion for the job was clear.
“She took time out to care for her mum after her diagnosis and was determined to make her proud,” said Julie. “Aimee was a valuable member of our team who was always willing to help.”
Final Moments and Fond Farewells
When Aimee was admitted with COVID-19 symptoms, she specifically asked for Julie. The ward manager stayed by her side in the emergency department, offering comfort during her final hours.
“It was an honour to be with her and provide some comfort,” Julie said.

Chief Nurse Amanda Hallums added:
