Wolverhampton police have dealt a major blow to local crime by raiding a so-called “bed bus” linked to anti-social behaviour in Bushbury. The converted vehicle, meant to shelter people, was instead a hotspot for drugs, prostitution, and illegal firearms.
‘Bed Bus’ Fueled Crime, Not Rest
The bus, parked on Kipling Road, was home to more trouble than sleepers. Officers found:
- No insurance on the vehicle
- Clear signs of drug use inside
- Reports of prostitution linked to the site
On Friday 30 January, the Low Hill neighbourhood team teamed up with local partners to seize the bus and crack down on criminal activity surrounding it.
Gun and Ammo Taken Off Streets
After initial searches, police secured a firearms warrant. Firearms officers discovered a self-loading pistol and four shotgun cartridges. Though the pistol is believed to be blank-firing, it can be converted into a deadly weapon—making possession illegal.
Class A Drugs Found as Probe Deepens
Authorities also confiscated suspected Class A drugs, now undergoing forensic tests. The bus itself remains in custody for further investigation.
Inspector Martin Danher said: “This was an involved piece of work from one of our dedicated neighbourhood officers and the local team with support from firearms officers. The bed bus has been misused and instead has been used as a hub for crime and ASB. A firearm and ammunition have also been taken off our streets.”
