Major Incident Closes Roads Around De Montfort University
A man in his 20s has died following a stabbing near De Montfort University in Leicester. Police launched a murder probe and have arrested an 18-year-old suspect.
Officers shut down Oxford Street and nearby roads on Tuesday evening after the stabbing was reported. A large police cordon remains in place as the investigation continues.
The victim was rushed to Leicester Royal Infirmary but later died from his injuries. Leicestershire Police confirmed the arrest, with the suspect held on suspicion of murder.

De Montfort University expressed shock and support for those affected.
“We are aware of a very serious incident on our campus this evening. We are working with Leicestershire Police as they launch an immediate investigation. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by what has happened. We are offering direct support to students and staff who witnessed the incident.”
Emergency Services Responded Fast
East Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 5:03pm. They sent a paramedic ambulance, three crewed ambulances, and an air ambulance responder to the scene.
One patient was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary for urgent care.

Tailbacks are particularly bad near Leicester Royal Infirmary with NHS staff needing ID to get through.
Local MP Liz Kendall urged calm on social media, saying: “A police cordon remains in place this morning. There are no further details currently and I would urge everyone to refrain from speculating whilst investigations continue.”
