Police hunt witnesses after woman sexually assaulted in car in Brighton

Victim escapes and calls 999

A woman was sexually assaulted inside a Mercedes C Class on Montefiore Road, Brighton, at around 3am on Friday, November 18. She bravely managed to get out of the vehicle and dialled 999 for help.

Suspect arrested after police chase

Officers swiftly responded, finding the car at Preston Circus. The driver, a 65-year-old man, initially refused to stop but was eventually detained. He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and failing to stop, and remains in custody.

Police seek dog walker and witnesses

Specialist officers are supporting the victim. Police have reviewed CCTV footage and are urging a dog walker who may have helped the woman after the attack to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police online or via 101, quoting Operation Ashburnham.
