Officers from the Ashfield Operation Reacher team were cruising in an unmarked car down Willowbridge Lane, Sutton-in-Ashfield, when they spotted two men sealing a shady deal.
High-Speed Hunt Ends in Cemetery Snare
The team chased a suspect towards Huthwaite, calling for backup. They tracked him to a car park off Ashleigh Avenue. Spotting the cops, the man tried to escape by jumping over a wall — right into the arms of officers lying in wait using local knowledge, hidden in a nearby cemetery.
Drugs, Cash and Phones Seized in Bust
Searching the suspect, officers found suspected cocaine, heroin, cannabis, drug-dealing kit, cash, and mobile phones.
A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of cannabis.
Sergeant Praises Clever Police Tactics
“This was a great example of officers using their local knowledge of the area to complete an excellent bit of work,” said Sergeant Paul Peatfield of Operation Reacher.
“After spotting a suspected drug deal, officers called in reinforcements who positioned themselves perfectly to make the arrest.
“Unmarked patrols like this are vital. Drugs bring countless problems to our communities. We’ll keep working hard to catch dealers and destroy their stash.”
