The driver of a large goods vehicle sprang into action, using a working fire extinguisher to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control. Their swift reaction was credited with stopping a major incident in its tracks.

“Well done to the driver on the M3 today for having a working extinguisher and knowing how to use it,” said officers from the Hampshire Road Policing Commercial Vehicle unit.
Firefighters from Hampshire Fire and Rescue then secured the area, deploying fans and foam to ensure the scene was safe for everyone.
